Student/New Professional Board Rep

The Board Student/New Professional of the National Council on Family Relations serves a two-year term as a voting member on the Board.
  1. Attend Board Orientation in early fall in Minneapolis. Attend three face to face NCFR Board Meetings and be available for monthly conference calls.

  2. Write articles for the NCFR Report. Refer to calendar for due dates.

  3. Chair Student Award Committee.
    1. Solicit nominations through NCFR Report and letters to universities and colleges.
    2. Acknowledge applications as they arrive and send letters to approved candidates requesting supporting data.
    3. Prepare supporting data for blind review and mail to committee members.
    4. Score each candidate on grid as votes come in from committee members; add up the total scores to determine the winner.
    5. Notify the winning Student/New Professional; solicit biographical data and photo to be sent to NCFR headquarters by July 15th of each year. Notify the committee members with name of winner.
    6. Send letters of congratulations/regret to each candidate and nominator.
    7. Prepare news release about award winner; send to NCFR Headquarters for distribution.
    8. Present award during Annual Conference. Prepare a short (2-3 minute) speech about the winner.

  4. Assist in networking students and new professionals.

  5. Suggest names for positions for Board Student/New Professional and Program Student/New Professional.
    1. Prepare student interest questionnaires.
    2. Screen applications for service and verify membership in NCFR.
    3. Interview prospective S/NP candidates and verify their willingness to serve in office if elected.

  6. Annual Conference Responsibilities
    1. Attend Sessions.
      1. S/NP Skills Exchange - S/NP Development Forum
      2. S/NP Business meeting
      3. S/NP Sponsored Party
      4. Chair Council of Section Representatives meeting
    2. Attend Newcomers Reception.
    3. Attend NCFR Annual Business Meeting.

  7. Be available for consultation with Students/New Professionals
